I was alone in the open part of the restaurant when I was looking at the upstairs and heard a door slam – but all the doors were already closed. Only later did I learn about “Jack.” As soon as I walked into the place I knew it was haunted. I told my friend and he said “No way.” Then a young man in period clothing (vest, bloomers, black hat etc.) walked into the dining room. I asked if he worked there, he said he did. I asked if the place was haunted and he told me yes, then gave me a great tutorial on the history of the restaurant. He left the dining room and I never saw him again. When I asked about it later, I was told they never had anyone in period clothing working there. True story.
I worked at Yesterday’s Royale for seasons, from 1980-1983… All waiters and waitresses wore period clothing. I made my victorian style dresses and the guys wore knickers with suspenders. It had a fine dining room and a more informal cafe room where they served fish fry dinners every Friday night.
