Although some say the story is a work of fiction, Muriel Trevenard is the ghost who some believe to haunt Yaquina Bay Lighthouse. As the legend goes, Muriel was visiting the lighthouse with her friend Harold. As they left, she realized she left her handkerchief and went back in. Harold heard her scream and rushed in after her, but she was nowhere to be found.

I visited this Lighthouse 2 years ago, as we were getting ready to leave, all 3 of us heard a blood curtling scream, could this have been Muriel?
This lighthouse is haunted by more than Muriel. The entity that made her disappear is still there too. It doesn’t make itself known like she does, with her foot steps on the stairs, cold drafts, the usual ghost phenomena. It just lurks, invisible and undetectable to most everyone who has not developed their psychic senses. Probably the most disturbing place I’ve ever been to.
I had an experience at that light house once. I’m a longtime resident of Newport Oregon grew up there and no all the crazy places.I had recently moved back from Portland where I hade resided with a girlfriend for one year. Addicted to drugs she left and returned to the coast, I soon followed. 2 weeks into being back I had found out that I was going to be a father for the first time which meant I would soon be again leaving. I did not know how to explain this to amber at the time. Later that Thursday evening she and I met at that light house, we spent the remainder of that night there with each other and talked about what we should do next. But it was now close to 3 AM and she was clearley tiard so I told her to go home to sleep for the night. knowing this was the last time i was ever going to feel body wrapped around mine. as we waited for her ride to drive from Toledo to pick her up I had the most pleasurable sadness come over me, and together we made passionate love like it was going to be the last time for both of us on the front porch of that yaqunia bay Lighthouse
The next morning I left and never seen her again. I am now a father of three and have been back to Newport and then back to Salem a few times and I can deffinetly say that I heard some heavy moans that night outside that lighthouse but it wasn’t no ghost, just a beautiful memory of the place I call home ,Newport Oregon.
Special thanks and deepest apologies to Amber; hope you don’t hate me girl and maybe someday will understand why I did it the way I did.

I have never sensed anything unusual here but visited a few times in the 60s and 70s when I was in my childhood and teen years. Though it has since been removed, I always noted what appeared to be an old, fairly large bloodstain on the landing of the tower staircase. Might have been from something else but it sure looked like blood to me.
Hello my name is Justin Layton and I grew up here in Newport there is a legend of a man who went into the lighthouse when he was very drunk oh wait that actually was me OK well anyways I hallucinated that there was a lady there that had her legs cut off
I’ve been to the lighthouse several times, and, haunted or not, I enjoy it. We do have to remember though that it was in operation for only a short time, and then abandoned for many years. and abandoned buildings attract transients of all types, so we’ll never really know everything that happened in there. There could be plenty of reasons for a ghost to be there!
