Now a historical park, frontier town and museum, this former penitentiary once housed famed outlaw Butch Cassidy. Visitors to the site may get a glimpse of a ghost named Julius Greenwelch, who makes his home here.

We’ve smelly cigar smoke in the side of the prison where they had butch cassidy …. A cigar maker was housed there and it’s said that you can sometimes smell the smoke out one of his best cigars we were helping with ghost tires of Laramie Wyoming and we’re working the haunted prison part of the tour and not just one but four of us smelly the cigar smoke and heard a cell door slam shut in a section no one was in.
During a tour through the territorial prison about 16 years ago, I came across an area where there was the strong smell of either cigar or pipe smoke. It was very distinctly that. But of course, no one was allowed to smoke in there, even back then and no one in our tour group had been smoking. My son, about 10 years old at the time noticed it too. I hadn’t mentioned it to him until he asked me if I smelled smoke.
I’ve had a few experiences here. With the smell of pipe tobacco being the most noted through out the building. I have also smelled spearmint up in the dining room.
The most memorable though was the night of the last community Christmas party there. I was sitting in the down stairs part of the horse barn theater feeding my 2 month old son when I felt a had on my shoulder. There was no one in the area with me.
