The building is now vacant, and was previously a mental hospital around fifty years ago. There are reports of people hearing loud footsteps in the building, seeing ghostly lights moving around the upper level and having objects thrown at them by an aggressive entity.

The building no longer exists
I lived there in the mid-1970’s. I lived on the second floor in a front corner apartment near the parking lot. I had an experience with who I would later learn is apparently a ghost called “George,” who I read was actually not harmful. I was asleep and woke up to find what appeared to be a man standing in the doorway of my bedroom. There was something odd about his appearance, like he wasn’t really real. He started to walk toward me with his finger to his lips as if to say “quiet” and with the other hand out, as though to tell me to lie down. I could feel something as he got closer. I pulled the covers over my head as he got closer and closed my eyes, and never saw him again. After that, I was a little afraid to stay in the apartment when my roommate wasn’t there.
I thought maybe I was dreaming something until about 20 years later I had been on a haunted tour of Gettysburg. We were all talking about stories and I remembered this. When I got home, I Googled haunted places in Columbus, Ohio, and didn’t expect to see anything. Imagine my surprise when I found a website that talked about Walnut Knolls and sightings, including “George.”
