A man in grey period-clothing is seen limping across the room before fading through the walls. It is also said that the ghosts of Joseph Grimaldi and Dan Leno have returned here in the afterlife and are very mischevious in their actions.

Hello, My name is Phil Hawkeswood and I worked at the Theatre Royal Dryry Lane in 1991 as Assistant Manager. I would still be at the theatre on a Monday night after the show came down which at the time was “miss Saigon”. I would have to stay behind to finish the payroll and my office was off a corridor where Dan Leno used to walk and you could clearly hear him brushing his dress against the corridor walls as it was a narrow corridor to pass through with such a large costume. Dan Leno used to wear a large chiffon type of dress when he performed on the Drury Lane stage. You could hear him shuffling along the corridor and quite often I would get up out of my chair and walk out of the office to try and follow his footsteps. I could always hear him about 8 or so paces in front of me. I worked at Drury Lane for just over about 18 months and ghostly experience would happen at least on a monthly basis. I also had a dream about the man in grey watching him walk through the theatre before I even knew about him and explained the dream the next day to my general manager and he said, your dream of where you saw him walking is exactly where staff have seen him walk. I dreamt that he walked through the dress circle bar and through into the Prince of Wales room where the Royal box is which looks over the auditorium. I used to leave the theatre most Monday evenings at about 3am in the morning because in those days there was no computers to do the payroll on and it used to take till early hours of the morning to complete as we had a out 175 staff. The Lane as we have always called it is a very Haunted building and I know every corner of it.
Hope my little story helps and I promise you it’s all very true., Phil Hawkeswood, Belvedere, Kent
