The Devil's Elbow

You are here Home  > Miscellaneous >  The Devil's Elbow

The Devil’s Elbow is a dangerous curve along Wopsy Road that has a story about a ghostly white lady. Legend has it that she was a new bride on her honeymoon at the Wopsononock Hotel, which burned down long ago. As their carriage rounded the Devil’s Elbow, there was an accident and both were killed. The ghostly bride is seen along the road with a candle, looking for her husband, whose body was never recovered from the wreckage. Some stories say she is a hitchhiker ghost or that she stops young men to see if they are her husband. She disappears from cars at the Devil’s Elbow.

  1. Where im from we call it horseshoe curve. A couplr of my friends an I decided to go one night. We had pulled over and sat. I looked in the back seat. A ghostly white figure of a woman was in the back right seat we all seen her. It was wild!

  2. It’s not called the Horseshie Curve. That’s a famous historical train site. The devil’s elbow is where the “White Lady of Wopsy Mountain” supposedly died

  3. Grew up there and is definetly eerie up on the buckhorn. Spent summers on a horse farm with no electric and it gets darker than u can imagine. It has a heavy, eerie mysterious atmosphere.

  4. This is a crock. I went to the Altoona PSU campus in the ’70s, and I heard about this ghost. I later did some research, and nobody seems to know the names, dates or any specific info. I have said in a post on another forum that if the couple killed were prominant, there should have been newspaper stories, exact dates, etc.

  5. Just got back from this bogus site. You need to park on the side of the highway which there is only one spot to do so but youre not even close to where you need to be DONT WASTE YOUR TIME
