  1. Hi; I would just like to add my personal experience of staying at the The Chequers Inn
    Smarden, Ashford TN27 8QA.
In 1975 with my sister & my girlfriend booked a night at the chequers Inn as we were going to a Parachute course over two days at Headcorn Aerodrome.
The Saturday night we had booked into the Pub & both myself & girlfriend were shown to a room & my sister to another room, it would seem that we had the room in the older part of the Pub & my sister was in the more modern part.
We had a meal & a few drink in the pub that evening & around closing time retired to our relevant rooms.
Sometime in the early hours of Sunday morning my girlfriend woke up & shouted that she had or what she thought had cold water being poured on her back, Jackie my girlfriend always slept on her front.
I quickly woke up & turned the light on in the room to find out what was going on??
To my astonishment Jackie had a mark running right down her back which looked like someone or something had pressed very hard on her back & marked her back similar to if you got your thumb & run it down quite hard to mark underneath the skin.
The really scary thing though was it was a cross upside down, so the top of the cross was at the bottom of her back.
Not believing what I was seeing I told her to stay exactly were she was & I went down the hallway to fetch my sister, who after a few knocks on her door she came to our room with me & I asked her to tell me what she saw on Jackie’s back, she confirmed what I had said.
The next morning, we went down stairs to have breakfast & mentioned the strange goings on to the landlord at the time which is when he confirmed that the room we were in was supposedly haunted.
We were told by the landlord that it was a soldier from the Napoleonic wars who was murdered in that room we had been staying in.

Some years later Jackie got married to one of my best friend’s as we had broken up a year or so before her marrying, she had two boys with Billy & 10 years on from having the eldest boy the boys were coming back from school & tried to get access to the house which seemed to be empty as no one was answering the door.
The boy’s decided to get access to the property through a partly opened window at the front of the house which was the lounge, only to find Jackie on the couch in the room passed away.
The death was confirmed as a massive heart attack & she would have known very little about it.
I have over the years had a few unusual things happen to me, but the instant above is the really scary one. I am a total believer in all things that are to do with hauntings or similar.
    Yours Sincerely
    Gerald Crow
