James Scott, an illegitimate heir to the throne, overthrew this castle in 1685, but only a month later, a retaliation cost him his life as well as most of his soldiers. Many were hung on the gallows, other were forced to become slaves, but doubtless, it is said many of those who were killed are still here. The pounding of footsteps come from unoccupied quarters, music from a violin is heard, and some have reported hearing the noise of a party taking place.
