The former owner of the inn, who has since passed on herself, used to see and even speak to the ghosts that are alleged to haunt the inn. It is claimed that there is a male and female ghost who have both been seen throughout the inn.

I used to live about a 2 blocks from The Sutter Creek Inn and there are ghosts in many buildings there, including houses and apartments. I lived on Spanish Street and after 6 months I had the creeps so bad, I had to move. This is the list of what happened at the house I lived in:
the bedroom door opened by itself frequently, a phone got knocked off of the hook frequently by itself, the ceiling fan went on by itself, and one morning when I woke up there were hundreds of bees flying around near the ceiling. The bees never came down to my level, but I got dressed and left. When I returned, they were gone and never reappeared.
Neat
I had an encounter there with my wife, a friend and his wife. We all decided to go visit this location because we heard it was haunted. My wife, my friend wife and I walk up to the house and looked through the big front Window. As we looked in, we since a woman walked from the kitchen to the front room. We turned around from the window because we didnt want anyone thinking we were peeping toms. The next thing, the property owner came down and asked us if we were interested in getting a room. I told her could you give us a tour and she didn’t hesitate. Very nice person. The room called the Upstairs Washroom was really cold but weird thing about the whole trip. There was no one renting out a room. So who in the heck was that we seen in the window when we first arrived? The woman was wearingwhat look like a long black night gown
We lived in Sutter Creek while our daughters were growing up. There are many, many stories of haunted places within the town. My daughter worked at a restaurant across the street from The Sutter Creek Inn, and while getting supplies down in the basement room (which is connected via a tunnel under the street to another building, at one time used to take men to an illegal brothel), she was confronted by an apparition woman. She never went down in the basement alone after that!
My husband and I stayed at the Sutter Creek Inn in the lower washroom. We heard rattling noises off and on all night as if a spoon in a glass was rattling. We also heard roaring like a big rig truck was parked just outside the room and finally it sounded like the glass and spoon fell. Throughout the night we both woke up and commented on the noises. In the morning my husband said to me, “I think this place is haunted”, I was thinking the exact same thing but had not said anything. We hardly slept all night. We had never experienced anything like it before! It wasn’t scary, just annoying. I felt like the ghost was a juvenile just being mischievous. If you like this type of experience, this is the place for you, however, we would never stay here- or in any old place again!
