The story goes that a student of the school, Linda Landy (they didn’t even attempt to make up a name that didn’t sound fake), was struck and killed by car while walking home, so now she haunts the Library. Because ghosts don’t have to make sense.

i went to smith middle school from 1996-1999 and there is a plaque on the outside of the cafeteria/gym that is dedicated to Linda Landy(her real name btw). She was a student there in the 70’s and was hit by a bus and killed. I never saw her sensed her ghost however and I am a clairvoyant.
I am going to the NEW Smith middle School that was build about 2 years ago next to the old ‘haunted’ School and it is true that a Girl named Linda Landy was hit by a bus. There is also a sign by the new School dedicated to her. i have also not seen her ghost yet.
I went to Smith Middle School at the same time Linda Landy did. She was one grade ahead of me. What I can say is that she was beautiful, kind and quite. Her death touched me and many others. She was not struck by a bus. She was struck by a car, and the driver had to be hospitalized for shock. She was riding her bike at the time she was struck. She survived several days but succumbed to her injuries. I don’t know that she does or does not haunt the school. I pray that she does not.. and that she rests in peace.
I went to school with Linda. She was 8th grade and I was 6th grade. She was an amazing girl. I remember crying like crazy that day.
The above comments about Linda Landy from the students you went to school with her are totally correct. Linda was beautiful, sweet and had the smile of a princess. She played clarinet in the band and also had a younger brother who also went to Smith. Her accident was indeed a bicycle/car collision (not near the school) It was a tragedy and I will never forget the emotional pain I felt as a 6th grader knowing one of the most beautiful and popular girls had tragically died. This is a silly “haunting story” that doesn’t even make sense. She was a sweet, gentle soul and doesn’t deserve her name being associated with paranormal paranoia.
I knew Linda and went to school there with her.We moved u he night she was struck. She was the most beautiful person that I knew. I don’t believe that she is haunting any thing , I know that she is resting peaceably above.
Jesse Flores, I was allowed to walk with her a lot. I was in 6th grade, she was 8th. No way she haunted, to great a loving soul.
I went to the old Smith Middle School and if it wasn’t Linda Landy who was haunting the girls locker room, opposite of the cafeteria, then something far more sinister was. Never got creeped out in the library, just the locker room. And at night, I’d always walk all the way around the school rather than cut through it… same went for Johnson and Meyer >.>’ There was just something really really scary about the school yards at night in good old Ft. WeGotcha
Big Same! The only dare I ever backed down from was walking across Smith and Meyer Schoolyards at night! Would walk all the way around to get home from the Px, Shopette, or Barns Field House! Johnson didnt have nearly as palpable as a presence though, imo.
oh my gosh me too, i went there in like 2009 and the lockerroom (especially where the showers were) was just so scary- i went back there once as a dare and i swear i heard something growl at me and i took off so fast from the lockerroom.
I remember this story when attending Smith Middle School from 1988-1990. Personally I never experienced anything paranormal around the lockers, next to the gym, but I would occasionally hear some students getting anxious and frightened of the alleged ghost of Linda Landy. What was scarier, was some the lunch’s they would serve us in the cafeteria, during that time.
I went to that school for one year before they build the new middle school. They did have a plaque for her… that thing would always give me the creeps.. When I went to school there, there was a rumor that if you were the last girl in the locker rooms, Linda would come out and kill you. It scared me into never being the last girl in the locker rooms.. But while I went to school there.. a Janitor had committed suicide.. but the scary part was.. he was found hanging in the girls locker rooms.. Idk it just always freaked me out.. I went back to the school after the new one was build.. and I heard noises.. and I think I heard a laugh.. that when I screamed and left
FWIW- I never heard of this when I was at Huachuca, but I did hear the cemetery had a murderer buried in it who haunted the place. The story was he was hanged there. Also, there was a story an old home on the post near the old parade field was haunted with a rocking chair you dared not move, lest the place start to get active. The rocker supposedly rocked itself.

I attended 6th and 7th grade in 1988 and transfered to Sierra Vista Middle School for 8th. Ms. Merrill had a club in the choir room for those of us who had parents in Desert Shield/Storm.
The library had the plaque, but the sinister vibes came from the girls locker room; originating from the never used shower area. The story isn’t that she was a softball player hit by a car, but a bus infront of the school. I dont know if the janitor was related to her, but I wouldnt be one bit surprised if he’s the malicious spirit there thats corrupted hers. As a sports lover, it makes sense that she’s tied to the girls locker room; just as much as the molesting janitor is tied to the girls shower room.
Anyone whose walked from the YA and onto the school grounds at night would be hard pressed not to admit they feel a malicious and tragic presence. I fear that the spirit of the janitor preys on the spirit of Linda Landy to this day, corrupting her into something as malevolent and twisted as he is, if not worse.
But yes, we Never went into the locker room alone or left anyone behind alone unless it was by accident back then. When you were accidentally alone, an ominous and tragic presence was palpable.
I was at Smith for 6th and 7th grade during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. The cafeteria was fine, but the girls locker room? Mainly the unused shower area? Another story entirely.
The rule was never go into the locker room alone and never leave anyone behind. I had accidentally gone in and was left behind more than once and let me tell you… you know the exact second when you’re alone. This clinging malicious presence engulfs you and causes your throat to tighten so you cant even scream. Ive blindly stumbled out of there half dressed on more than one occasion, mute and damn near in complete hysterics.
Linda was most definitely real. I went to 8th grade with her there, and my best friend was actually doing the 8th grade equivalent of dating her when she passed. Very beautiful girl, incredible softball player. Probably the most popular person in the school so her passing was a shock and for many of us and the first time we had experienced death up close. The ghost part is BS but Linda was a very real person
Linda was in my class at Smith. I can still remember her funeral at the post chapel. At that age nothing seemed real or lasting. Like a bad dream. She was a sweet, soft spoken, classy girl who had two best friends at school that were never apart. I believed we all thought she was the most beautiful girl at school. I am now 60 years old and at times wonder where her life would have taken her. Linda Fox (Mitchell maiden name). I’ll see if I can find my yearbook from that year and post a picture.
