Welches Roadhouse - Old Welches Inn

The Welches Roadhouse was said to be haunted by a woman who killed herself when she jumped in despair from a second-story door used for snowdrifts. She had taken in an escaped convict and was bearing his child, but he had left her. The location later became the Old Welches Inn bed-and-breakfast, but is reportedly now closed.

Gettysburg College

It is reported that two administrators had an experience with an elevator to another dimension. Instead of stopping at their desired floor, the elevator continued to the basement. When the door opened, they saw a thriving hospital scene, only without sound. Frightened, the two desperately finally managed to close the door just as one of the ghostly orderlies looked up and caught their terrified gaze.

Baleroy Mansion

Thomas Jefferson is among the ghosts said to haunt here; at least seven spirits are reported. Some manifest as apparitions, some ectoplasm, and some as poltergeist pranks. U.S. Founding Father Jefferson, witnesses say, likes to appear in the dining room, near a tall clock. There is also a cursed chair at this site; those who sit in it are said to die shortly thereafter.

Bishop White House

There are said to be three ghosts here, all of whom have been spotted by visitors. On the first floor, the apparition of an elderly housekeeper has been seen. On the third floor, the ghost of a thin man has appeared. Also reported in the house is a spectral meowing cat.

Houdini Museum

The Houdini museum with its psychic theater is considered a very haunted place. Seances are conducted here, and the place has been featured on many TV programs.

Pen Ryn Mansion

The historic mansion and its grounds are the haunting place for the ghosts of Robert Bickley and a female entity believed to be that of his girlfriend. The haunting is said to occur every December 24th. The woman appears on a black horse and holding a whip, and whips anyone who comes near. At the same time, Robert shows up and raps urgently on the mansion’s doors and windows.

General Wayne Inn

This onetime inn and tavern on the National Register of Historic Places is said to be haunted by several entities. In the 1704 building, named for General “Mad” Anthony Wayne who once stayed here, folks have seen the spirits of a Hessian soldier, a British officer looking for a locket, and of literary great Edgar Allan Poe, who frequently stayed there as well. Also reported have been poltergeist activity and screams. The place has been featured on TV’s Unsolved Mysteries and Haunted History. Reports say that the building is no longer an inn, but a synagogue and Jewish activity center.

Library Hall

Founding Father Benjamin Franklin is said to haunt this historic hall. Folks say his statue comes to life and dances in the streets, and his apparition has been seen in the building carrying an armful of books. Also, a woman claims that the ghost once pinched her rear end.

First Bank of the United States

The historic First Bank of the United States, a National Historic Landmark, is reported to be haunted by United States founding father Alexander Hamilton.

Cliveden - Benjamin Chew House

Lurking about this historic house are said to be several ghostly Continental soldiers and a headless elderly woman, whose head was severed by one of the soldiers. The headless woman has been seen apparently searching for her lost head.
