The opera house is haunted by the ghost of former residents, who can be heard walking around the house and talking late at night. The ghost of an actress in a red dress has been seen in the dressing rooms, but she vanishes when approached. She has also been heard singing when no one is around.
The inn has been declared one of the most haunted buildings in Waynesville. The most haunted room at the bed and breakfast is Room #004. The shadowy apparition of a young merchant who was murdered in the inn has been seen here, as well as in the dining room of the inn. The ghost of a black cat has been seen in the hotel hallways, as well as various other apparitions in period clothing. Bottles and other items fall off shelves off their own accord or are moved around. Disembodied footsteps are heard and spectral voices have been reported in the old inn.
The ghost of a colonel murdered here by a woman he loved has been reported in the tavern. His apparition, which appears as a ghostly ball of light, has been observed floating around the building. Footsteps often appear in the snow outside the tavern when there is no one around.
This antiques arcade is haunted by many apparitions, which is not hard to believe as the building was previously a funeral home. The first apparition reported in the building is a tall man in a brown suit, who has been seen walking around, and in some cases through the antiques displays. The apparition of a lady in a yellow gown has been reported pacing the upper levels crying, but when approached she vanishes. Another apparition reported in the arcade is the sinister floating spectre of a man in black cloak. His evil presence is so frightening, an employee quit immediately after encountering the spirit. A ghostly grey cat has been reported peeking around corners in the old building, but the origin of its haunting is unknown. Other ghostly phenomena includes disembodied footsteps, knocking and banging sounds, shadowy apparitions, heavy breathing and ghostly voices. On the second floor, the sounds of children playing and laughing are heard. Several upstairs rooms are avoided as an evil entity lingers there, trying to choke or injure staff or visitors. There is an old wooden café bench with other café features around it. In that area, elderly women can be heard talking and the aroma of Italian food can be smelt, despite the fact that the arcade has not food stalls. This phenomena may be in relation to the fact that a restaurant previously stood on the premises of the current building.
The upper two floors of the museum have been bricked up, and it is believed the ghostly activity has shifted to the lower floor of the museum building. Ghostly voices have been heard, cold spots are felt and a piano in the reception area plays by itself. Ghostly apparitions and strange lights have been seen in the museum, which previously served as an old hospital.
The restaurant was originally called the Sherman House Restaurant, but closed down due to paranormal activity. Glass windows had a habit of shattering, glasses and plates would fly off bars and counters and explode in front of customers. Doors opened and closed by themselves and lights in the offices and the restaurant refused to behave normally. At one point, employees even complained that invisible forms brushed past them in some of the rooms. The restaurant reopened and the owners have reported that the level of activity has decreased.
Former owner Nicolai Holmbo hung himself in the front room of the house in 1904, and locals reported sighting his apparition staring down into the street late at night. Screams and moans came out of the building, and strange flashing lights moved around the house, despite the fact that it had been abandoned for decades.
According to patrons, the bartenders at the bar are willing to dispense ghost stories, including tales of how a male maintenance employee was once told to leave the women’s room by an unexplained voice. Giggling voices can also be heard in the bar.
The house (an estate once owned by Frank Lloyd Wright) is haunted by the apparition of a lady in a white gown. Windows open and close by themselves, and late at night, the lights in the building will flash on and off when no one is around.
The building was formerly a saloon, and is famous for being the being the landmark at which Morgan Earp was assassinated. Since then, the building has been haunted by at least three entities. The first is that of an aggressive ghost, who attacks people who enter the building and switches lights on and off. Disembodied footsteps have also been heard on the upper floor of the building. The floating apparitions of a woman has been seen in the building, as well as the spectre of Morgan Warp himself.
