Glenbeulah Cemetery, aka Walnut Grove Cemetery, has graves dating as far back as the early 1800s, one of which glows and another of which sometimes sports a ghostly pair of shoes, according to legend. Rumor has it that a man hanged himself here, and his apparition has been seen late at night. The place has been featured on TV’s Unsolved Mysteries.

Retlaw Theater
Retlaw is Walter spelled backwards. The theater was owned and operated by Walter Schroeder, and he still lingers here in spirit. Witnesses have heard footsteps, clapping, creaking of theater seats, doors that open on their own, and figures that show up in the basement.
Old Opera House Site
The Old Opera House was built in 1885, and is home to a spirit who moves chairs and closes doors; apparitions of two elderly folks have been spotted standing in corners, watching the staff.
Old Chilton Walmart
At the Old Chilton Walmart, folks say apparitions, shadowy figures, have been seen in the aisles and store stock has moved or been thrown on the ground. Electronics operate by themselves, mists appear out of nowhere, cold spots abound, and muddy footprints turn up on newly mopped floors.
St. Joseph Cemetery
St. Joseph Cemetery is one of the oldest in the city, and many strange things are said to happen here. Some of the rumors involve human sacrifice, apparitions, ghost hounds, orbs that show up in photos, and the grave of Kate M. Blood, which has its own story. Locals say the housewife killed her husband and 3 children with an axe. Rumor has it that blood trickles out of the upper right-hand corner of the grave during a full moon.
Dairy Queen
According to the rumor mill, the owner of the bar that once stood where Dairy Queen is now found the building’s haunting to be too much of a trial, so he sold it. Now, witnesses say unexplained noises and flickering lights are not uncommon, and the equipment will sometimes act up and spew ice cream.
Rinehart Theater
At Rinehart Theater, folks have reported unexplained footsteps, doors that open and close, and a toilet that has flushed by itself. One day when some actors arrived at work, they found three lighted candles set in a triangle around a rose on the on the stage.
Beaver Dam Community Theater
Beaver Dam Community Theater is reported to have a ghost of a disgruntled actress. So the story goes, after failing to get a part she wanted, the actress called Lacy hanged herself in the loft. Footsteps, crying and electrical anomalies have been reported around the area.
Flynn Steakhouse
Flynn Steakhouse, reported to no longer be in operation, was housed in a building from 1868, and had a haunted, unused hotel upstairs. Misty white formations were known to appear, long believed to be the ghost of Mary, a child who passed away here in the 1860s. Among the strange things that have happened here are visions of a woman in a white dress, gas burners that turn on by themselves, unexplained sounds such as a player piano or an object being dragged, and a loaf of bread that once levitated.
Nelsen's Hall Bitters Pub
Nelsen’s Hall Bitters Pub & Restaurant is housed in a historic building and sells the drink used as a “tonic” (wink) during the Prohibition era. It is said to be haunted by the spirit of namesake Tom Nelsen, the Danish man who got a pharmaceutical license to serve his tonic at the establishment. Staff says they have heard footsteps on the stairs and seen unexplained things, like doors closing by themselves.
