O’Neal Bridge, aka Holiday Drive Bridge, was built around 1892 and restored in 2008-2009. The bridge may no longer be in use, according to reports. Legend has it that around this spot, a KKK lynching took place, and hauntings way stem from it. Witnesses have reported disembodied screams in the wee hours.

Austin Arnold Road
The legend of the ghost on Austin Arnold Road starts is about a hermit who was unhappy that the coal mine was moving too close to his home. He destroyed his house and burned his crops, then laid down a tarp on which he shot his dog and himself. Unexplained fog and cold spots have been reported in the area and are attributed to the hermit’s ghost.
No one seems to know where exactly this road is supposed to be – “Austin Arnold Road” appears on no maps.
Valparaiso University
At the Alumni Hall at Valparaiso University, two ghost children, age 8 or 9 and wearing jogging pants, are known to run up and down the hallways at about 2 a.m. According to some of the student residents, the ghosts have spoken to them and told them they were playing tag.
Markle Mill - Old Mill Dam
Markle Mill was the longest operating gristmill east of the Mississippi, and is rumored to have been part of the Underground Railroad, but all that remains of the original 1816 structure are the dam and parts of the foundation. The ghost girl who has been seen here is believed to have been someone who passed away while using the now-closed underground tunnels.
Vigo County Historical Museum
Formerly the Sage Mansion and once used as a halfway house, the Vigo County Historical Museum is home to some strange phenomena. The front staircase is a hot spot for orbs, and a small mist has been seen as well. Furthermore, a crib upstairs in an area that’s closed to visitors has been known to move by itself.
Kemper Military School - State Fair Community College
The former Kemper Military School, now State Fair Community College, had a ghost of a female cadet who was killed along the track. Her apparition has been seen jogging around the track; it disappears when it gets to the spot where she was killed. The A, C and D Barracks also were known to be haunted. In A Barracks, a Civil War soldier has shown up in a doorway. Footsteps and shadows have been seen as well. in C Barracks, unexplained footsteps have been heard. And in D Barracks, a ghostly form has been noticed standing in the window of a closed floor.
Riverside Theater Works
Riverside Theater Works, formerly French’s Opera House, is haunted by Esmeralda, who died during a fire. “Essie” is said to haunt children who are performing in plays, and has been seen floating above the stage. Esmeralda died in a purple chair in the audience near the right side of the stage, and flowers are placed there for her before performances. But if the flowers aren’t in full bloom, it’s said that Essie will play tricks with the lights during the performance.
Fort Warren
Fort Warren, a pentagonal structure of stone and granite, was completed near the beginning of the Civil War and was decommissioned in 1947. It was named after Revolutionary War hero Dr. Joseph Warren, who sent Paul Revere on his well-known ride. The fort is haunted by a ghostly lady in black, whom witnesses say is the wife of Lt. Andrew Lanier, who was imprisoned here during the Civil War. The distraught woman, desperate to see her husband and help him to escape, crept onto the island dressed in men’s clothes. They were caught, her husband was shot, and she was sentenced to be hanged. She asked that she be allowed to wear women’s clothing for her hanging, and she was given a black dress that had been used in a soldiers’ play. Her ghost has been spotted on the island and is sometimes heard screaming and moaning.
Fort Revere
Fort Revere, formerly Fort Independence, was renamed to honor patriot Paul Revere. It was used from the American Revolution through World War II and was decommissioned in 1947. A number of eerie experiences have been described by witnesses here, such as unexplained noises and whispers, and shadows that rush by or loom in doorways.
Old Plymouth County Hospital
Plymouth County Hospital, once Hanson Tuberculosis Hospital, is said to be haunted by some of those who have died within its walls. Passersby have described screaming and laughter coming from the empty building, or simply a feeling that something inside is watching them.
