Pleasant Valley Cemetery is haunted by the Rose Family buried here. Legend has it that Ceely Rose murdered her mother, father and brother in 1896 over her love for Guy Berry. Guy lied and told Ceely they couldn’t marry because her family didn’t approve of him rather than tell her the truth: that he just wasn’t interested. So Ceely soaked some arsenic flypaper and sprinkled the water on her family’s food until they died. Guy flew the coop, afraid of what she may do to him if she found out the truth, and Ceely was placed in a mental ward.

Patterson Homestead
Patterson Homestead is a historic house museum built in the early 1800s, originally home to Revolutionary War veteran Colonel Robert Patterson and his wife Elizabeth Lindsay Patterson. When the house was donated to the city by ancestor Jefferson Patterson in 1953, it was complete with 18th- and 19th-century furnishings and many family possessions. So it isn’t surprising that the original Pattersons still call the place home. Museum staff have seen rocking chairs rock and other items move on their own. Some rooms have cold spots, and the smell of a phantom dinner cooking sometimes wafts from the kitchen.
