Pere Cheney Cemetery, circa 1873, sits in a ghost town that has been the subject of lots of haunted tales. Locals tell about apparitions, orbs, witches, strange lights, and Native American curses. The cemetery has been a target for vandalism, and few headstones remain, according to reports. The townspeople are rumored to have been killed off by disease in the early 1900s.

Thornapple Village Inn Restaurant - Bistro Chloe Elan
The former Thornapple Village Inn, now Bistro Chloe Elan, has a ghostly legend attached to it. The story says that an engagement dinner was held here, after which the bride-to-be suddenly died. Her ghost is said to roam the premises, showing up in women’s restroom mirrors or tinkering with the elevators.
Cornerstone University
Cornerstone University is haunted by a ghost girl in a 1970s-style dress who has been seen waiting outside Pickett Hall late at night. When the ghost realizes she has been seen, she disappears.
Machpelah Cemetery
Machpelah Cemetery, a Jewish graveyard established in 1912 is said to be haunted by the phantom sounds of bells and screaming from around midnight to 3 a.m. The sounds seem to come from the park behind the cemetery.
William Tyndale College
William Tyndale College closed in 2005, but was rumored to have ghosts that may reside there still. The ghosts were discovered by phantom noises: the clicking of a woman walking down a hall in high heels and the sounds of children playing.
Olympia Books
Olympia Books is no longer in operation according to reports, but it is said to have a ghost named Mr. Bock. His name comes from lettering stenciled in the hallway that leads to the apartment upstairs. The ghost has been known to knock books off of shelves or place them in front of the door. He has also twice set a chair in front of the door, facing out toward the street. His footsteps and disembodied voices have been heard and lights come on and off by themselves inside Mr. Bock’s apartment, say its current residents.
Siena Heights University
Siena Heights University is rumored to have a haunted room in one of its dorms. At least, Room 211 is said to have been haunted in the 1970s. A witness reported that doors opened and closed, and glowing eyes came out of nowhere in the middle of a wall. A chair rocked by itself and smashed a mirror.
Ramsdell Theatre
James Earl Jones gave his first performance of Othello at the historic and haunted Ramsdell Theatre, built for T.J. Ramsdell in 1903. Mr. Ramsdell’s ghost and that of an unknown woman have both been spotted in the building. Electrical anomalies have been reported here as well, specifically lights that come back on after they’ve been turned off for the night.
Bois Blanc Island
Bois Blanc Island, southeast of Mackinac Island, is rumored to be haunted by the ghosts of two British soldiers who allegedly deserted. The men were killed by Native Americans after their commander put out a bounty on them.
Castaway's Restaurant
Castaway’s Restaurant on Lake Nepessing is housed in a building that was once a hotel and has ben several other businesses. Witnesses say the apparition of a man has been seen walking off of the dock into the lake, and a ghostly woman has been spotted near the lighthouse. Some patrons have reported nexplained voices near the restrooms and and a feeling of cold hands around their necks by the roof staircase.
