Thirlestane Castle

One of the Dukes who occupied here is still reported to haunt the location. It is believed to be John Maitland.

Dunrobin Castle

A bride-to-be tried to elope without her father’s permission, leaving her to be locked up in one of the upper rooms. While trying to escape by rope, her father stumbled across her, resulting in her losing her grip and falling to her death. Her ghost is believed to still appear here.

Braemar Castle

A woman leapt to her death at the battlements after thinking her lover had left her. She is still reported here.

Leasowe Castle

A man and his son were locked away in here; to face an easier death than starvation, the man killed his son, then himself. The pair are seen together in the room in which they perished. Another ghost is said to be someone who started to appear after a fire destroyed one of the buildings. The ghost is said to be seen at waist level on the floor because, when it was rebuilt, the floor was changed to a different level.

Royal Court Theatre

A caretaker named Les slipped on the icy roof and broke his leg, later dying of exposure to the cold. Whenever unaccountable events occur, figures show up in photographs, noises are heard, or something is seen, the saying is: “It must have been Les”.

Hylton Castle

Robert (or Roger) Skelton was a stableboy who was murdered and disposed of in a well. After his death, messes that were left overnight became tidied by the morning, the imprint of a body appeared in ash, and a cook say a naked boy saying he was cold (leading to the ghost being nicknamed “The Cauld Lad of Hylton”).

Rochester Castle

Lady Blanche de Warenne was killed during a siege in 1264. An arrow intended to kill her husband bounced off his breastplate and struck her instead; she then fell from the keep. Some say that they see the fall repeating itself, others hear disembodied footsteps within the castle.

Pontefract Castle

After 5pm, a monk is seen walking from what was the kitchen towards the Queen’s tower. A little, raggedly girl is also thought to be here.

Doune Castle

Mary, Queen of Scots, was exiled here. She is believed to be the source of energy that produces energy balls in photographs. Otherwise, this castle is necessary to visit because it was used for the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Reculver Towers and Roman Fort

Roman soldiers who once patrolled fort are still seen patrolling it. The skeletons of children that were uncovered could explain the sounds of crying that emulates from here. Dark, hooded figures have also been seen; odds are that a bulk of the activity that goes on here hasn’t even been encountered by humans yet.
