As the oldest church in London, it should be no surprise that this one has a haunted reputation. A boy’s choir practicing in the 1920’s were surprised to see an elderly woman stop by and watch them. The choirmaster had thought he locked the doors… and was even more surprised to learn he had. The ghost of a cat is also reported here.
Judge Henry Hawkins manifests in the gardens and is said to stay visible for an extended period. Cavaliers, knights, and those who once occupied this area are also said to haunt this location, sometimes being caught on photo.
Beside this building are the Wapping Old Stairs; George Jeffreys, 1st Baron Jeffreys of Wem, is seen by the Thames as if he is patrolling. Low tide is said to be the most common time for something or someone to manifest.
Lady Marion Carruthers fell to her death in a case or either suicide or murder. At the point where she landed, no grass would grow, a feeling of sorrow was felt, and Lady Marion was seen crying. She has now been seen throughout the castle and is said to appear in photographs.
Between the Hall of Meredith and the Great Chamber, a woman is reported in the corridor. She is said to be reported with a putrid smell, touches guests on the shoulder, and watches visitors. Sir John Wynn made a deathbed confession to murdering a maid and bricking her up (which is believed to account for the apparition); Wynn himself is also still seen here.
In the eastern section, shadows are seen running about, and a boy’s face looking out a window have been seen. Most commonly seen is the White Lady on the pathway to the Goblin tower. She is surrounded by a white mist.
A woman named Dorothea is seen here wearing a green dress; she has been nicknamed “Lady Greensleeves”. Her appearance is thought to be a bad omen to travelers who see her, yet others say that she has saved lives.
