25 victims of the Our Lady of Angels Fire of 1958 were buried here in a mass grave. There is a memorial here for the victims of the fire. People visiting the memorial and the cemetery have reported smelling smoke and feeling a burning sensation of smoke while breathing. Many people visit here to go to the location where the Blessed Mother has been sighted to help cure their illnesses.
An old fort soldier was framed for shooting and killing another soldier of the fort. He was hung on Rifle Range trail. But, he is still seeking vengance. When you walk along the trail, it is said that you feel bullets whizzing past your ears, your hair gets pulled on, if you`re alone, you`ll hear crunching of leaves, dirt, and twigs behind you, you get touched, and sometimes thrown to the ground. It`s best to go at midnight…
The current Rohs Opera House (pronounced ROSS) opened in 1941 with a showing of Down Argentine Way. Ticket price was $.05 for adults. It was originally built in 1871 as Aeolian Hall, a live production theatre located on the second floor. A silent movie projector was eventually added to bring “movies” to Cynthiana. In 1941, the “new” Rohs Opera House was added to the building by H. A. Rohs and his son Karle. These men are the grandfather and great grandfather of the actor Chris O’Donnel. Today, Rohs host moves, live events, and is known to be haunted. Some of the activity reported includes an “Angry Man”, A Lady In White, and “Two children who run and play”. My wife and I are a husband/wife paranormal investigation team who go by the name “Wiccked Paranormal”. We recently stayed the night there and caught some interesting things on our DVR and in photos.
Dating back to 1907, the historic former masonic temple and museum may have a resident ghost. Known as ‘Frank’, the poltergeist frequently slams doors and turns on lights after the place has been closed up for the night. Disembodied footsteps have also been heard on the second floor, and on occasions the old elevator is operated by unseen hands.
The 1901 historic hotel and restaurant is haunted by the ghost of Mabel Magee, a young barmaid who passed away at the establishment. Her spirit has been known to slam doors and play practical jokes on male guests. Others claim to have heard disembodied footsteps and a ghostly female voice.
The Cotton Mill in Jefferson, GA – This old cotton mill has a been shut down for nearly 50 years but has recently undertaken a restoration project turning it into an event center. Workers have seen several unexplainable acts including:
-dark objects running at them and then bolt to the ceiling
-foot steps and moans coming from under the floor*
-real objects failing from above
-dog or cat looking objects appearing in pots and chairs
-Blurry objects appear in the background of almost all self photos taken in a certain area
*it was discovered that this mill used to have a basement yet now there are no doors or stairs to get to the basement and the family who has owned the mill since it was established refuse any questions about the basement. rumors say that there was an accident where the lst floor gave out killing 100s of workers and then the owners removed any evidence of there being a basement and closed the mill. These souls have been trapped until this recent restoration…
In 1971 there was a plane crash on a mountain in Parotsville Tennessee. Limbs were scattered everywhere and no survivors were ever found. While waiting for the bodies to be identified they were housed in the Cocke County Memorial Building. Among the bodies were many small children. Many people have a feeling of being watched, they hear a woman screaming, and they can see a small boy with black bowl haircut sitting with his legs crossed. Many people have forgotten this tragic event but one visit to the Memorial Building and you will instantly remember.
Employees have witnessed a lady on the top of the stairs. Cups and other objects can fly around the room when closing the store. Pizza oven timers will turn off.
Although I’ve heard a lot about Rochester’s abandoned buildings, I hadn’t been to any of them out of apprehension and a little bit of fear. This one day that I did go, I brought my camera to try to capture the decaying architecture of the places.
There are a ton of stories about the Rochester Psychiatric Center, also known as the Monroe County Insane Asylum. The hospital that the asylum operated under has been maintained and renovated for present day use, but a few of the buildings were closed and now exist as creepy remnants in varying states of decay. These remaining infrastructures are allegedly the final resting places of many of the hospital’s past patients. I’ve heard claims of people hearing cries or shrieks from inside, and passing by but feeling people watching them from inside, occasionally swearing they saw someone out of the corner of their eyes.
As most of the buildings have been boarded up, I wasn’t able to go inside any of the buildings (and, to be honest, I wasn’t necessarily looking for a way in). The howling winds of Rochester, NY, and the cold, eerie weather set the mood and I was definitely feeling a little spooked, even as I walked around its exterior, assuming that every sound I heard was coming from someone or something inside of its walls. Going through my pictures afterwards, I took the picture attached. It was inside of the Walters Building. I seemed to have captured an unnatural blur in a high window, possibly evidence of the paranormal. Considering the building’s history, I can’t even say it was unexpected to make such a discovery.
During “active hours” in city hall, there is not much activity that is reported. But at night, shift workers inside the building, which is secured, have experienced multiple occasions of paranormal activity. The various types of accounts have been listed below and further investigation is on going by staff working night shifts at the location.
1) “The Ghost of City Hall”
On occasion from video footage inside the city’s camera system, a gray blurry figure or blob like spirit can be seen just outside the building on the E Commerce St side entrance. The spirit seems to come from a corner section of the building and walks / floats across the lower portion of the parking lot eventually disappearing before going off screen. A photo of this spirit has been attached from a video taken of it, you can see it in front of the drain. This photo does not do it justice as you would need to see the video to have a better understanding of this entity.
2) “The Spirit in the Elevator”
During overnight hours, the two elevators inside city hall are locked to the lower first floor and are not suppose to function between floors until unlocked by a city maintenance technician. However accounts of the elevators going between floors and randomly opening and closing as if someone was riding on them occurres almost on a nightly basis. No actual spirit or entity has been seen however on or around the elevators.
3) “The Tall Top Hat Man”
One of the more frightening and most prevalent entities in city hall is a figure of a tall dark shadowy man wearing a top hat. He is known and has been seen wandering the halls at night of city hall mostly on the second and third floors. He has however on occasion been spotted on the first floor as well. He usually will appear and watch people inside the building at night, sometimes following them and when you approach him however or try to make contact, he tends to walk into a room that will only have one entrance. When you enter the room to find him there is no one there. Reports of this man have been made to officers as well which have spotted him inside the building as a “trespasser” after hours, on the account of the one time contact was made officers followed the spirit into an enclosed concreted mail room where again he vanished with no physical way of escape.
