Zombie Road - Lawler Ford Road

This road goes through two miles of woods, and comes to a dead end at what used to be a rock quarry. The reported ghosts said to roam here include are a man hit and killed by a train, a child who fell to his death from the nearby bluffs, Satan worshipers, a crazy old lady who yells at you from her house at the end of the road, and plenty of Native American spirits roaming the woods. Another eerie story about this location is how it got its nickname “Zombie Road.” The name came from a mysterious murderer known only as “The Zombie.” He would hide out in his shack as he waited for party goers and lovers to arrive there, and then would attack them. Many believe The Zombie still roams Lawler Ford Road, as reports of people vanishing mysteriously around the road aren’t uncommon.

Antero Hot Spring Cabins

We stayed in the Cottonwood Cabin on my 40th birthday. After I fell asleep in the downstairs bedroom, I felt someone touch my shoulder. My boyfriend had fallen asleep on the couch upstairs so I thought it was him, but when I woke up and looked there was no one else in the room with me. I turned over and fell back asleep and a little later I felt someone sit at the foot of the bed. Again I woke up and no one was there. I went upstairs and woke up my boyfriend and made him come to bed with me. Nothing else happened when he was in the room with me. This cabin used to be a post office and was moved to its current location and added on to.

Scripps Road

Scripps road is an old dirt road off the beaten path in Lake Orion. People claim to see dark figures around a gate leading to the scripps mansion and also in the surrounding woods. It is also said by some that you can see white figures chasing your car as you drive down the road.

Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts

The building was built in 1847 and is on the MIssissippi River. It was a rooming house for those on the Red River Ox Cart Trail. There have been numerous reports of smells, sightings, and sounds by a variety of visitors. Personally I have seen a woman sitting on the steps, have heard footsteps on the second floor, have smelled bacon and stew cooking. Others have reported a young boy playing marbles. A young man and a young women have been heard and seen. A couple different paranormal investigators have done investigations and have captured movement and other evidence.

Nickerson Snead Haunted Mansion

Welcome to The Haunted Mansion VA. We are a seasonal haunted house attraction presented by The Nickerson Snead House Museum in Glade Spring, VA. This haunted house attraction is unique because it is set up in an authentic haunted house. There are over 200 years of spirits haunting the the old Antebellum. So you may encounter a real ghost during your visit at the Nickerson Snead Haunted Mansion.

The Nickerson Snead House Museum’s original structure was a two-room log cabin built in the mid 1700s by Francis Kincannon. Dr. Nickerson Snead purchased the cabin and surrounding land in 1835 and built the sprawling Antebellum mansion that sits there today. After the death of the Sneads the house was purchased by the Mason family. They owned the house from the late 1800s until the 1980s. The house was then purchased by The Waldress’ who converted the house into a bed and breakfast. The house then sold in 2004 to Ricky and Ronda Caudill who currently own it.

The Caudills have converted the house into a museum where numerous events are held such as winter and spring craft festivals, Murder Mystery Dinners, Ladies Victorian High Tea, The Haunted Mansion, and overnight paranormal investigations. There are plans to house Friday the 13th Haunted Weekends and a Steampunk Festival in the near future.

Fishtown of Usan

I went to the ruins of Fishtown of Usan to get some photos of the buildings which are now mostly fallen. The buildings are extremely old, but the location itself is much, much older and dates back to ancient times.

It was late evening and just beginning to turn dark when I began taking photos, which was my entire purpose for being in the area. Although there are people living near by the site, there was no one out and about on this night. However, as I walked along the length of the buildings and underneath the old tower, I kept hearing a knock, knock, knocking — the sound of hammers or some sort of tools. But there was no one around to make this noise, as I kept checking and asking who was there. Of course, no one could actually be inside any of these building working — they no longer have roofs or any protection from the elements. Still, the sounds continued as I hurried to complete the photos. The only problem was that my camera battery died after just a few shots. I always carry two replacements, so I inserted a fresh battery. After another 5 or 6 photos, that battery died, too. So I quickly inserted my third battery. When I looked up, ravens were landing on all of the buildings, quiet as could be, but watching. I rushed to get 2 or 3 shots and when my third battery also died, I thought perhaps it was a good time to leave. I ran, actually, although there was no obvious danger. It was just a creepy feeling.

Numerous paranormal events are reported at this location, but few precise details are available.

Riverside Drive

I have heard many ghost stories about some of the houses on Riverside Dr. The one I know happened was the old house across from Izaac Walton Lodge. Yankeetown is called an “original cracker town” and the houses by the river still had the slave quarter houses standing. My sister lived in one of these houses so one day going to do something at her house I remember seeing an old black man sitting at the top of the slave house staring down at us with worn clothes and as I tell my mother there is someone here and she replies that there is no one there. She drags me back to the truck and we leave. She has also told me stories when she was in the large plantation house and she thought her son was in the house trying to scare her but she realized he was outside. So she started running for the door and she heard louder footsteps chasing her. When she got outside she slammed the door and refused to enter the house alone after that. There have been other stories told about this house but I can not remember all the details.
