This is the Legend of The Ghost Bride Of Piedmont Jacksonville Rd. Legend has it that many years ago on Halloween, a young bride to be was getting ready for her wedding. When she went outside of her house she was attacked and dragged off to the other side of the road by a wolf, while the wolf was dragging the bride across, the wolf and bride were ran over by a speeding car. The driver of the car was the groom late for the wedding, when he had saw that he had killed his bride, he panicked, so he took the body of the bride and buried her in a deep hole on the other side where the wolf was going to drag her off to. When the groom got to the wedding, everyone asked where the bride was, to which he answered: “She said she did not love me anymore, and she ran off with someone else.” It was a month later when everyone found out the truth, but even though the moved the body to a proper grave, the Bride’s Spirit still resides on the side of the road, she can never leave because of the brick Wall built on the side of the road, which was said to be cursed by an old witch, this is why the bride cannot leave. So, every Halloween night, if you go to the brick wall, you can call upon the Bride by saying: “Ghost Bride ,Ghost Bride, come to me, show you yourself in front of me.” When this is said she will appear, she will be there in the dark, just staring at you, the she will approach you, and she will tell her story and say help me. After that she will vanish, not to return until next Halloween. This had happened to me last year, I had heard it from my Uncle, and when I went to the location last Halloween with my Family, she had appeared. I was scared out of my wits at first, but then I was over it and before I could ask how could I help her she vanished right before my eyes.
Rumours circulating around the Duluth area claim that in 1948, a man committed suicide by jumping off the 5th level of the tower head-first. He died on impact. The man’s corpse was found hours later, and the man was never identified. Over time, visitors to the park claim to see a man on the 5th level of the tower before entering the tower. When the person reaches the top, the man is gone.
I was told about this location from someone who either used to work at this former ambulance call center or knew someone who worked there, but it used to be a home that was haunted before it became an ambulance call center. You can still make out where the house was located on googlemaps but it’s overgrown with weeds now so it’s harder to make out the outline of house, but the active area is by the wall/mid field by the first driveway entryway. I’m a psychic medium and paranormal investigator who checks out locations fairly often, I use equipment including a psb7 spirit box, K2 meter, parascope, etc. to check for activity and this location is a hot spot. I have a youtube video of the last time I was there with a friend and we got some interesting voices that included references to it being a call center and “Modesto” came up twice. There’s no fence or signs in this area so it is easily accessible however cops do patrol McHenry so they might drive by, had this happen once but they didn’t see us apparently. There are powerlines by the street/sidewalk that will set off certain EMF detectors however where the house was located, the powerlines will not set it off, I’ve already tested this.
Not to be confused with New Grove Cemetery, the Fort White Cemetery is a really old cemetery where most of the gravestones are unreadable or have been buried by leaves or dirt. It is definitely spooky and creepy there, it is really overgrown and goes back into the woods quite a ways, but there is a legend that goes with it. Rumor has it that if you go into the cemetery way back separated from other graves is a tree with a gravestone that has been broken in half under it. You are supposed to put the gravestone back together and read what’s on it and you will hear babies crying or possibly see children running.
I have worked at the DeSoto for 4 years now and the number of stories I have are too numerous to list here . We have had several paranormal investigations in the last 4 years that have yielded EVP’s, images caught on digital cameras as well as IF Security cameras. We have had customers post some of their experiences on our FB page DeSoto Rock & Gift Shop. One experience that was unique was when I was in the shop by myself. I am very particular about wiping the makeup off my phone before I put it back up to my face. So I wiped it off and set it on the edge of the desk. I was unpacking some merchandise and @ half hour later, I picked up the phone and there was a hand print on my phone. You might say…well you could have set your hand on the phone not knowing. I thought that myself. I tried to put my hand in the same position. I could not make my fingers small enough to match. I had the first customer that came in take a picture of my phone. I have recently sent this photo to a Paranormal investigator that has forensic photo connections. We will see what happens.
Behind the MHI on the north side there Is a locked gate about 4 feet tall, if you follow that path down about a foot ball field distance you should cross a small bridge, and there is a small cemetery that is home to nameless graves.
It is said that if you take the trip down pass sunset and take a shot of the cemetery with a flash camera you will see faces of the deceased.
The deceased were once said to be mental patients that were experimented on and no one claimed them after their death. Now they lay in their own place with nothing but a number and life to death dates.
Originally built at the turn of the century as a mercantile grocery store, it was shortly after used by a local church for their temporary place of worship until their regular church building was completed. It was then used for many years as a funeral home. It is now a local pub and most who have worked their have experienced a multitude of unexplainable ghostly occurrences. Most common are “the footsteps”. Usually later in the day or at night, if you are in the basement without anyone else in the building, you will hear the very clear and recog sizable sound of someone walk across the hardwood floor above you. The other most common occurance is the feeling that someone is always watching you. You almost feel like they are right outside of your peripheral view and you can never quite catch it. Other things, such as the draft beer turning itself on, a dish flying about 3-4 feet and gliding gently across the floor, empty beer cans being “kicked” across the basement floor, and overwhelming feelings of single and multiple presences have happened.
Built in 1901, the Stanford Cumberland Presbyterian Church had been loved and enjoyed by it’s congregation until it was sold in 2004. Between 2004 to 2012 it has changed hands four times since. The first owner lived it for a very short time. It was then sold and became an events venue business. That owner failed to repay a large loan taken out on the property and it went Into foreclosure and neglect. The third owner was a local Bloomington resident. During this ownership the property was vandalized and copper pipes, brass door hardware and stained glass were taken from the property. The building itself.f was still in great shape, however the weather changes over the last couple of years being empty had affected the building. With it’s demolition looking like it’s most likely future, luck happened to finally find the church building. Two gentleman from California found and bought the property and have since recovered 6 of the 7 windows, replaced the piping and have continued plans to fully restore the building. The current owner has experienced 3 desperate entities within the building. The first was an older stern gentleman in the basement, believed to have been a caretaker or prominent member of the church. He was watching over other space as if wanting to know what business the new owners had being there. The second is a young girl of 7-8. She makes her appearance around Halloween time and enjoys moving and messing with Halloween decorations. It is believed that she probably had never seen those kinds of decorations before, especially in the church, and finds them amusing. The third is “the whistling woman”. She has been heard going about her business in the kitchen downstairs whistling a short cheerful tune. None of these experiences felt ominous or threatening, although the “caretaker” did give the feeling of a stern person of authority.
My husband and I pulled onto Woodchuck Alley and found an old cemetery there. We were the only two people there and it was a quiet, sunny, Sunday afternoon. My husband was at the far end of the cemetery closer to West Kendall Road and I was in the center of the oldest section of the cemetery. I heard a woman say very close by Yoohoo!!! There was no one there. It was not a bird or any other wildlife. It was a distinct, human voice.
