In 1636, the opulent gentleman Don Juan Manuel de Solorzano had married the daughter of a rich miner from Zacatecas, Miss Mariana de Laguna. From the beginning, Don Juan Manuel had been tormented by a terrible unreasonable jealousy that drove him to obsession, prey of the devil because of his jealousy, Solorzano offered to sell his soul to the devil in exchange of finding out with who his wife cheated on him with, The devil accepted and made the pact: Don Juan Manuel should have came out at night, get close to whoever passed by his house and kill him at 11 o’ clock sharp, the devil would point out to the guilty one appearing next to the corpse. At night Don Juan Manuel came out of his house wrapped in a wide cape, with a hat whose feathers practically covered his face and getting close to the innocent transient and asked him:
“Excuse me being customary, what time is it?” “Eleven o’clock”, answered the poor victim, then the crazed man answered: “lucky you, that knows the time when you die”
In this time Don Juan Manuel appears at 11 o clock and make the same question to people walking outside house.
Kingman Museum of Natural History is located on top of a hill, on the grounds of Leila Arboretum in Battle Creek, Michigan. The building the museum is in, today, was built in 1934 as part of the Battle Creek Public School system to house the school’s collections of natural history specimens. The founder, Edward Brigham, Sr., went on many expeditions across the US, South America, the Pacific and parts of Asia to collect rare artifacts. Some of these artifacts and medical specimens include mummified remains, dinosaur fossils, and over a dozen human fetuses and dead babies.
The museum is no longer part of the school system and had to shut it’s doors for about a decade due to lack of funding since the annexation from the schools. In 2003, however, a grassroots effort made it possible to reopen and welcome the public back inside, as the museum is now incorporated and not affiliated with any local schools.
The most paranormal activity that is reported comes from the mezzanine, the planetarium and the southwest corner of the lowest level. Doors open and close on their own, conversations from people can be heard when no one is around, children laughing, items crashing down, items disappearing and reappearing, the elevator rides up and down with no one on it, etc. The most common reports are of people hearing their names whispered right into their ears and balls of flashing lights appearing out of nowhere in the planetarium.
Before this site was The Rock, it was The Tankee diner but before that it was a restaurant called “The crab tree” (something like that). The book keeper was embezzling money in the 50’s. When the restaurant was going out of business she hung herself in the basement.
Phenomenons:
-a server claims she saw a woman in 50’s clothing pass through the walls in the women’s bathroom
-there’s actual footage shot by the previous Assistant Manager of a chair being thrown from a table
-both the previous Assistant Manager and a training server saw a white orb fly across the security camera screen and the motion sensor go off inexplicably, no one else was present in the restaurant.(this has been reported to happen many times)
Sensitive guests feel a ‘presence’ when they tour this historic 1860’s home. Some have mentioned seeing a lady in a long black dress in the kitchen or hear footsteps in the dining room. Others hear children’s voices upstairs. A paranormal team had it’s flashlight turn on & off & batteries drained from devices.
The historical jail in Yellowstone county, a man hung himself in a doorway here. Witnesses have reported hearing screams and voices coming from the basement. Also reports of people running and rattling on the bars of jail cells.
My family owns the restaurant. I have heard stories from others, but I am only documenting what I have experienced first hand. I’ve been in the kitchen and felt ice cold wind rush by, like a freezing cold arctic wind blowing by in a hot kitchen with no air conditioning vents near me. I have had my hair pulled in the entrance hallway, I was just walking to the kitchen as usual when something playfully tugged one of my curls. I was drinking a cappucinno once talking to my mom near the entrance (who was about 5 feet to left of me) when something blew my cappucinno foam into my face. When you looked at the foam you could see the indention that clearly looked like a person blew at an angle to splash me. In the same area I was taking a phone call when the light bulb on the lamp on the desk burst. We set up for a wedding (the brides father had just passed away…not sure if this was related) and during set up, one chair near where the ceremony would be held kept being pulled out as if someone was sitting there. This chair was replaced probably 5 times or more, and finally we gave up on putting it back. I’ve seen lights go on and off, hear odd noises, and thought I heard my name being called on many occasions. Customers will randomly ask me “Is the restaurant haunted?” without provocation. The restaurant was desinged by my father, who bought the property as an empty lot. I have asked many people and have been told it has always been an abandoned lot. A bank once bought the property, but never built anything and quickly sold it. The only story that has ever been told to me was by one of our oldest customers (90+ years old) that told me when he was a little boy it was the sight of a traveling carnival and they would chain a wild bear to the large oak tree in front of the building.
Local legends claim that the wardrobe on the second level of the hotel is haunted by an unknown spirit that was cursed to the wardrobe a long time ago after it was made. Other reports claim seeing shadowy apparitions in the 3rd and 4th hotel halls in between the hours of 2:45 AM and 3:55 AM.
Strasburg Road is known as Knock Knock Road, because many passersby in their vehicles have reported the sounds of constant child’s knocking and rapping on their car doors and windows. The haunting is said to stem from a adolescent girl who was once riding her bike by the road, and was hit and killed. She is said to knock on the doors to get the driver’s attention. Another version of the legend tells of a group of teenagers riding a car down the road and crashed into a pole. The car caught fire and started to burn, while the teenagers, who were trapped inside, desperately pounded on the windows in an attempt to get out while they burned to death.
Built in the late 1800’s as a hotel initially to service the railroad. Was eventually turned into a nursing home and then a group home for the mentally handicapped. It serviced everyone from those with Down’s Syndrome to the more exotic of diseases like multiple personalities and schizophrenia. The building was shut down by the state of IA for many different reasons including neglect. Multiple deaths have occurred on property as well.
Many things happen in this 10,000 square foot building. Voices, bangs, shadow people, grabs, hair pulls, you name it and it most likely happens on a daily basis.
Overnight investigations are open to the public and by reservation only.
We stayed the night at this B&B in 2012. It was 2:23 A.M. and started hearing a party going on in the common area. We could hear glasses clinking, people talking and laughing, old dance music from the 1800’s playing. My friend Wednesday, that is her real name, went into the restroom and kept saying I’ll be right out. I thought she was just scared and talking to make sure I was still there. When she came out of the bathroom she said wow you must really have to use the bathroom. I ask her what she was talking about and she said I kept telling her to hurry up. I had not said anything and I wasn’t even near the bathroom.
I then went into the bathroom and heard her saying to hurry up, I heard her bang on the bathroom door and heard whispering like someone was in the room with me. I opened the door and ask her if she had been banging on the door or told me to hurry up? She said she had just been standing there waiting because she was scared at this point.
We ran to our room and pulled the blankets over our heads and waited for the sun to come up and we left. We haven’t been back since.
