New Century Air Center

You are here Home  > Miscellaneous >  New Century Air Center

Once the Olathe Naval Air Station, a combat pilot training center from WWII to the Vietnam War era, the New Century Air Center is now a commercial airport, industrial complex and business center. An airplane crash that cost a pilot his life around 1960 is believed to be the source of strange things that happen in the Army Reserve Chinook helicopter unit. Apparitions and unexplained voices, whistles, and footsteps have been reported, as well as locks that won’t stay locked and doors that open and close by themselves. The New Century Air Center has been featured on TV’s Haunted America.

  1. From 1995-2003/2004 my dad was one of the main security guards at New Century! I remember as a kid going and visiting him at work and taking him dinner. There was always someone walking around whistling. You couldn’t go to the bathroom downstairs by the guard tower, bc the door would open itself. You could always feel a presence there, but it was never scary or threatening. We played all over the hangar. My dad was the main guard interviewed on the haunted america TV show. I remember feeling so cool bc MY DAD was on TV. Oh how I miss that town.

Back in the summer of 1999 I was walking with my friends during the evening we saw a floating blueish-green cloud floating of the airport that was the only could around that night. I would also like to point out it does have Olathes name on it but, it is actually in Gardner, KS.
