Legend has it that the hauntings here center around Civil War story. Nancy and her husband lived here, and their son enlisted in the war. Word got back to Nancy that he was killed in battle, but no body was ever found. So she walked the tracks all over the mountain every night with a lantern and a pail of water for him. Nancy’s distraught husband left to look for him as well, and disappeared never to be seen again. Some say after a report came in that an old man was found frozen to death near the grave of an unknown soldier near Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, Nancy disappeared. Their house fell into disrepair. Some say Nancy’s ghost still walks with her pail and lantern.
