City founder Dr. John McLoughlin’s spirit is said to linger in his former home. Witnesses say late at night their shoulders have been touched or a shadowy figure has appeared going down the hall. Footsteps and the smell of tobacco also have been reported, and beds are found to look like someone has been sleeping in them. The apparition of a woman in an old-fashioned dress has been seen at the bottom of the staircase, believed to be John’s wife Marguerite.

When I was younger, we took a class trip here. My mom had gotten me a disposable camera to take pictures with. I took a picture of the portrait and felt something touch my shoulders. Later, when I got the photos developed, there was the same mans face, Mcloughlin, in the picture. But there was no reflection, he was standing in front of me, but appeared to be sideways.
you should post the picture. I would love to see it.
Went here a few years ago with my family! We didn’t know that it was haunted at the time, until when we walked upstairs to see the bedrooms. As I turned from looking into one of the left bedrooms, I heard heavy footsteps walking up the stairs and stopping at the second floor, only a few feet away from me. I told my mom and she denied it, saying it may have been someone downstairs, but I insisted and told her it was a ghost. She didn’t believe still. A few weeks later, my moms friend and co-worker was taking me back to her house with he youngest son as my mom was out. I asked her if the McLoughlin House was haunted and she simply said “Yes. When we went there a candlestick sitting on a dresser on the second floor flew off of it and landed near the middle of the floor.” At this time, I was happy, because this was the phase where I started getting into ghosts and haunted places, it was amazing.
