The ghost light at Maple Lake is, according to local legend, a reddish-yellow orb that appears over the lake and floats into the woods on the other side. It is believed to be the spirit of a man who was decapitated nearby in an accident; the light is his lantern as he looks for his head.

I was park at Maple Lake with my boyfriend. We were park facing the water near the right side of the park admiring the stars and the night views. Then I notice a glare of light to my right. When I look at it, the light started to fade down but I also saw a man in the brush of trees near the water. He was looking down into the water. He was wearing light color clothes. He looked my way and he look lost. He seem to be looking for something in that patch of area. He faded away. I felt sorry for him. All my life I’ve been able to see, hear, feel and feel what the sprites feel. He wont cross over for he haves un finish business still.
My Mom was murdered at Maple Lake April 3rd, 1991. Gina Newton. This place is hell on earth for my family. Still, I find myself going and sitting in the spot her life was taken. Amazing to me, how a place with happy family memories and fishing, camping, etc… is where my mom was horrifically taken from us. Where our lives stopped as well.
