The old tavern building was built in the 1840s, and was a cabinet shop in its early years. There are remnants of its older days as a tavern, such as a half-log bar in the basement as well as a 1930s keg. But locals here say that’s not all that remains here from times past! They say the apparition of a former bartender, who hanged himself in the bar and was buried in the cemetery at the church next door, appears in the restaurant in the late-night hours. He has been known to toss pans and touch patrons, produce cold spots and move objects. Folks say he is not a mean ghost, but likes to play tricks.

I was there a few weeks ago, of course, now it’s Wolf Creek Tavern. I went to the top floor to use the ladies room, as there was a band, and the downstairs was crazy busy. My friend and I were up there talking and looking around and I felt a hand pressing into my abdomen, much like if someone were to have come up behind me and put their arm around my and rested their hand on my stomach. We were the only ones there.
The basement used to be an old speakeasy. Very active down there.
