A legend surrounds this cemetery about a father put a curse on his large family as he died. He said that after he was gone, every six months, one of his eight children would died too. The curse came true as one by one, they died of illness or injury at six-month intervals. Then, six months later, their mother died, too. The large statue of a woman in the cemetery, called the Weeping Lady, is surrounded by eight graves and is said to be crying over her children. So the legend goes, if you go to the graveyard on midnight of the night one of the children died, you can hear her crying and tears will appear on her cheeks. So goes the legend, but according to reported, the reality is that there was no cruel curse, and the couple were Olaf and Julia Cronquist from Scandinavia. Julia was not very well herself and continued to lose her also-frail children to illness. She spent a lot of time visiting their graves, and when she passed away in 1914, the statue of her was erected by Olaf.

As a Utah State University alumni, I can say that it is very creepy. The statue in question is about in the middle of the the cemetary and facing east towards the mountains. There is a definite feeling of uneasiness and sadness the further toward the west you go. Please respect the area, of course.
