This inn, built originally in 1871, is known for its connection with renowned author Mark Twain. Personal friends of the owners, the author would send them his books and stay there when he was in town. Folks believe his ghost still visits the place, especially the room that was named after him. Witnesses say phantom pipe smoke has been detected, as well as strange orbs of light.

Stayed there with my (then) girlfriend over Labor Day weekend, 2021. We were walking the grounds, got near the area where they have the breakfast in the morning and there was a glider rocker, with no one in it rocking with force. We stopped and watched it for a full 15 seconds, then walked around a bush, which blocked our view for 2 seconds, when we got on the other side of it the rocker was still moving but the intertia was slowing down. It was as if whomever (unseen) was rocking got up and left. She asked the owner the next morning about it and they were very quick to dismiss it as a vent in the floor making it rock. We went in, checked the vent and the way it blew could not make the glider move like we had seen it. We waited for the air to turn on and there was no movement at all. I highly recommend the location for a weekend stay.
