The 23-room James J. Eldred House was completed in 1861, and was the setting for some sad events. All three Eldred daughters died of tuberculosis here: Alma, 4, in 1861; Alice, 17, in 1870; and Eva, 17, in 1876. A traveling salesman is said to have passed away here as well, and was buried behind the house. The hauntings are believed to stem from the home’s tragic past; the house has been featured on local and national ghost programs, including BIO Channel’s My Ghost Story.

I have been to the place many times with friends as we travel to Alton, IL on the great river road! It’s never open but it looks very inviting. The most scariest part of being at the Eldred House is the wild dogs that surround the place. They come from the bluffs with angry teeth with heartless personalities.
Im not even sure if were talking about the same place. The place im tLking about is on a country road outside virden. My cousin said it used to be a bed in breakfast back in the 2800s
