Imogene Remus, wife of notorious bootlegger George Remus, is rumored to haunt their former home. When George went to prison in the mid-1920s, Imogene sold all the furnishings in their mansion and many of his distilleries, essentially closing his business, and filed for divorce. On October 6, 1927, they were on their way to divorce court when George had his chauffeur follow her taxi. After a high-speed chase, her cab was forced off the road and Imogene ran from the car. George shot her as she ran, as their daughter watched, horrified. The gun George threw away was found near a gazebo in Eden Park the next spring, by a kid looking for Easter eggs. Imogene’s ghost is seen in a long black dress at dusk, usually in early October. Some witnesses have heard her quietly weeping.

I worked as a security guard in the downtown area during the early 90s. I would always walk through Eden Park to and from work. I have seen the ghost of Imogene Remus more than once during October.
