The most famous ghost here is the Grey Lady. Dorothy Beaumont, thought to be the aforementioned phantom, died during childbirth and demanded to be buried next to her child and that her husband not attend the funeral. However, neither of her wishes were granted and she still wanders about, sometimes photographed as a full-bodied apparition. In the chapel undercroft, the spirit of a former lord, John Somery, pushes and prods visitors. Other shadowy figures and apparitions have been seen down here. On the grounds themselves, a drummer boy (killed from a single bullet during civil war) is heard playing.
