The ghost of Tamsen Donner, one of the famed Donner Party who had to resort to cannibalism after becoming trapped here, is said to roam the grounds at night. Witnesses have seen her as a yellowish, glowing, female figure who hovers above the ground.

Why would tamsen donner haunt the park? The donner family camp was over five miles away at alder creek.
She actually died here in the park. She walked over after her husband died
that is true she did die in the park. however there isn’t much record that she was the man eater. Most of the cannibals survived the Donner party because of the extra calories they were in taking. Keseberg ate her for breakfast.
No ,this is the historal area the Donner Party camped. Along rt 89. Look on Google Maps its about 3 miles nirth of rt 80. Down where the Donner memorial is ,walk back that path. The Murphys camped at that large rock. We were just there Sept 9. The Reeds were on west end of Truckee Lake or Donner Lake
Right????
I have to agree, she was one of the last remaining survivors that was left at the Donner Camp at Alder creek along with her husband. he begged her to go with the rescue party but she remained there alongside him hoping to see the next rescue party. But upon the rescue parties return only the body of her husband was found, her body was never recovered. if anything she would be haunting that site or nearby. I may be incorrect on this but I do believe that there were possibly some deaths at the Donner memorial site, perhaps if anything it would be of one of those people who camped there, not Tamzene.
I will say one thing about Donner Camp, it had an eerie feel about it. I like going to historical sites and I am not affected by stories I hear about them, but I noticed while walking around the camp this month, that I didn’t even hear or see a bird (even though I was surrounded by forested areas), the breeze that had been blowing through the trees just outside the park was now still. it was like the only thing I could hear were my own thoughts. I felt a little strange in spots that were not next to any signs saying there were any possible settlements there. Could Tamzene or Elizabeth or one of the other members who died there be lost there? who knows
