Cottey College, founded by Virginia Alice Cottey Stockard in 1884, has a piano-playing ghost. The spirit is thought to be that of Vera Neitzert, a student from 1920 who perished when her clothes caught fire while she was cooking candy. Her ghost has been seen in Main Hall and the former Rosemary Hall. Another Cottey spirit who may be the piano player is Madame Blitz, a turn-of-the-century music department head who drank carbolic acid and died in her home across the street.

i was at cottey yesterday and i saw the spirit by the painting in the front with the people and woman in the window
Madame Blitz killed herself in a house that used to sit where the library stands now. I can tell you there are several ghosties in that library! I worked there for about a decade and closed the library late at night. Before the whole Madame Blitz there was a good deal of civil war unrest in that area as well with a rumored field hospital right there in that area. Deepwood Cemetery is also quite haunted as is the old jail building and of course the state hospital as well.
i went to cottey college and i can tell you that there absolutely ARE ghosts. the library and reeves hall are the worst, but robertson hall also has its fair share of supernatural occurrences.
I was at Cottey in 1983-84. Reeves Hall had dark entities that appeared frequently. The erstwhile Rosemary Hall is where Vera made herself known. During finals week, we were waiting for our professor and several girls came pounding down the stairs, screaming that someone on the 3rd floor was playing the piano (Fur Elise, to be exact).
