Chester House Inn and Antiques

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Chester House Inn and Antiques

The 1887 hotel primarily served railroad passengers and workers until the late-twentieth century. Now a delightful bed and breakfast inn with an adjoining antiques store, employees and guests staying at the establishment have reported many strange instances of paranormal activity. The place is rumoured to have been a brothel in the past, and people passing by have reported seeing a pair of ghostly women in old-fashioned clothing waving at them from the second floor of the building. Locals have surmised that they are Pearl and Ruby, who were both former prostitutes when the place was a bordello between World War I and World War II. The other spook haunting the old edifice is a male presence known as Clarence, who froze to death on the balcony of Room 4. Disembodied footsteps supposedly belonging to him have been heard wandering through the building in the small hours, and new owners are always warned by departing owners to appease the spirit, or else face his wrath.

I lived there when I was 14 with my dad. He had his room and then I had my own room a few rooms down. I have walked that place at night and have been downstairs by myself in the dark and never saw anything or felt anything scary. I can’t remember which room I was in.

  2. Hello, this is Amanda and Carolyn with Dead Last Paranormal.(find us on FB) We did an investigation at this location in 2019. We did get some very cool EVPs. One was a woman’s voice asking “why?” when asked to touch one of our team members. The other was a bell ringing. Sounded like the bell hop bell that was at the front door. We also were able to get the ghostly sound of an old train whistle. I believe we do have these EVPs added to our page if you would like to check them out.
