More than 10,000 people a year visit the grave of “Saint” Charlene Richard for spiritual healing. Although she is not truly a saint, at a young age she expressed interest in becoming one. Her mother told her that she could pray for the world’s sinners, and when Charlene was diagnosed with acute lymphatic leukemia at age 12, she continued to pray for others until her death on August 11, 1959. Charlene is seen as a symbol of the power of resignation and acceptance of God’s will, and is believed to have saved lives with her prayers. She is buried in St. Edward Catholic Church’s cemetery, where folks visit often to seek the assistance of her spirit.
