The elevator door opened and closed for like five minutes
1990 At the end of the first week of school my freshman year, the school had a block party. My roommate’s boyfriend came up from FL. My roommate, kinda late at night, went to our room to get some things for overnight at a hotel. Back in those days, I always wore a wide white headband. While she was in the room getting her stuff, she saw what she thought was me, in bed, with my white headband on, so she was quiet and left through our suitemates’ room, so the closing the door wouldn’t be loud and wake me up.
Later that night, I went back to the room and went to bed, none the wiser. (I think she left a note or message that she’d be gone)
Once she came back to the room, she said she’d hoped she hadn’t awakened me and explained how she saw me in bed and tried to be quiet. Once I found out what time that was, I told her that it wasn’t me; I didn’t get back to the room till later, and I didn’t wear my headband to bed as it would just fall off overnight and get lost.
She was pretty freaked out. Some of our friends suggested it was Mary, since Maary was a nurse and nurses wore those white hats. I said it was more likely a patient with a head wound. A nurse likely wouldn’t be sleeping there, and I didn’t think Civil War nurses wore those hats at that time (could be wrong).
Another time my roommate was out for the weekend, some other friends and I decided to have a water gun fight. It was after dark. I went back to my room (the same room) to get something and go to the bathroom. The front window was open. While I was in the bathroom, I heard a lot of wind blowing, it sounded like my calendar hanging by my desk in front of the window was getting blown all over and that my jacket, on a chair, fell off. When I came out of the bathroom, there was absolutely no sign of any wind. It freaked me out. I got whatever I’d gone back there for and hastily left the room, holding the door open for whoever else might have been leaving. I spent the rest of the weekend across campus in a friend’s room.
