This location is just down the street from the Florence prison. As a child living in the area (in fact, I lived down the street from the motel myself – directly across the street from the prison,) I heard about the horrific events that took place at the Blue Mist motel. At first, I didn’t believe the story, thinking that the other kids who told me it were just trying to scare me. As an adult, I did some research, and discovered that almost everything in the chilling story was true. In 1984 a man named Robert Moormann, who was mentally handicapped, got out of the Correctional Facility on furlough, and upon being released into his abusive mother’s care, the man (who was really nothing more than a man-child,) checked into the motel with his mother, where he tied her up and proceeded to beat and stab her to death. He then hacked her body up into pieces which he deposited in various dumpsters throughout the city of Florence. He was caught, sentenced to death, and was executed on February 29, 2012. People claimed they could hear a woman crying in the motel at night, even when there was no one there. The crying is often accompanied by a terrible feeling of foreboding, and the need to flee the premises.
Woodhaven Cemetery which is the oldest cemetery in East Coast South Florida
is within 200 yards of the Maritime Manor Vacation Rental. Although it’s not listed on vrbo or airbnb as haunted, The Maritime Manor is believed to host the first two police officers ever murdered in the line of duty in Broward County.
Marshall John Clifton has believed to be seen in the Maritime Manor
at night, slowly walking around the exterior perimeter ( maybe protecting ? ) The ghosts
always seem to be ” on guard.’ Last vacationers stated that they could see one of their badges reflecting light at night, even no lights we’re on in the area.
The Maritime Manor was originally a home built in 1926. Then it became the check-in office for
the first hotel / motels in early Dania; Originally, the Thunderbird Motel ( 1960’s ) and then became the
storage house for the American Maritime Officer’s training facility. A old guestbook with
Al Capone’s, Sammy Davis name, along with many others from the day, signed into the Thunderbird hotel and frequented this dwelling.
It’s worth checking out as the place is loaded with antiques from the 20’s on and the “vibe ” is surreal.
I arrived very late at night, around 3am from my flight and had a really scary experience where I fell asleep for about 30 min to be woken up to noises in the bathroom. Now there was no window in the bathroom, so I was a bit puzzled and turned on the lights in my room, only to see the shower curtains moving (again, no wind) and toilet flushing on its own. I’m usually pretty good at denial, so I blamed it on being sleepy and tried to ignore, with the movement and noises getting louder (that, and I was too scare frozen to even move). I spent the rest of the few hours convincing myself maybe it was a mouse, and finally had to admit to myself there might be something there when daylight broke, and everything stopped and fell dead quiet.
Things began to happen after our boss passed away in early 2010. The ice scoop that sits on the ice machine would fall off the machine at different times. We have a paper towel machine that you have to wave your hand to get paper towels. That machine would spit out a towel at random times, mostly when we were in the room, but nowhere near the machine. In addition, we had one or two instances of our flourecent light fixture swinging in a circle, which was very unusual, since they have never swung in any direction. Some other odd things happen now and then, not so much anymore, but in the first two years after she passed we had quite a few happenings. Our boss was a great lady, and nothing ever happens that is mean or dangerous. When ever anything happens we always remark that it is Irma, our old boss.
I own a wine, craft beer and coffee bar in the historic district of Baytown, Texas. Our building is very eclectic and was built in the late 1920’s. It was originally a theater (The Texan Theater). My staff and I sense a paranormal presence on a regular basis. Recently we have captured several unexplained images and video. The apparition always has a blue aura of varying degree. Some of my staff members have actually seen it first hand. It seems most active during live music nights, (which might make sense if it were either a performer or an enthusiast). Interestingly, it is a very peaceful feeling spirit (or energy). It doesn’t seem scary or angry to me. We have heard some stories, but have not researched in depth any occurrences that may have taken place in our building in the past to cause a “haunting”. We are starting that process now. It is creepy by nature to some of my employees, but I think it the possibility is pretty cool.
The most realistic story about Weary Road of Evansville Wisconsin involves teenagers “car surfing”, not slowing down for a curve in time and being killed when they were ejected off the vehicle into a steep ditch or the creepy treeline. Another involves more teens playing chicken on one of the longer stretches of road (pictured) by driving at each other at speed with the lights off, and wrecking head on when they misjudge the length of road. It’s pretty popular today for younger generations to repeat this, though doing some research I haven’t found any evidence of car wrecks. There have been reports of phantom motorcycles, cars and trains (Chicago-Northwestern tracks cross the north portion of road.), dark figures and imps passing in front of or behind vehicles traveling the road late at night, green glowing near the bridge, screams and inhuman sounds, scratches showing up on bodies, if you stop your car on the bridge the car won’t start back up again (this happened to me personally in my brand new car full of people, 2008), sightings of a ghostly girl in the woods, “Mr. Weary” making appearances on the road at night (supposedly after visiting 3 or more times).
This is the house where a woman named Mary Belanger supposedly died when she fell into the fire pit in the back yard and burned to death. Events such as visible apparitions and floating objects support this claim. I also took a photo in the cellar that captures an orb behind a yellow object.
In 1912, when the lighthouse was at a different location, it was struck by a ship and fell into sea, killing the two lighthouse keepers: Henry Franson and Charles Mcgowen. Many people have said to have seen and heard their spirits in and around the lighthouse. It is also said that the lighthouse is haunted by two children: a boy and a girl.
My aunt use to be manager there and she told me of strange things happening including a floating man in the stockroom that resembled a gang member who died there.
