The housekeepers always said that they saw the apparition of a Chinese man with a clever particularly on the 4th floor. They also reported that many guests also heard the sound of horseshoes in the alley behind the hotel when there was nothing there. The building once housed Chinese immigrants during the Gold Rush.

  1. Used to stay at the Hotel Rex frequently in the 1990s. One night, I went to bed, locked thg he door and awoke to find my dress shoes missing. I called the front desk and reported it. They asked me to look outside my door. I did and there were my dress shoes freshly polished and wrapped up in a fancy bag.

  2. I don’t know what for certain haunts this place. I do know that I stayed there once with my family when I was 16 and had the unusual sensation that I was being watched in the hallway and I recollect having a very vivid dream where I was brought out the window and down the fire escape. There Is a huge quote from the Maltese falcon on a wall in the downstairs hallway and you definitely can feel that something is up with the place itself but you be the judge.

  3. I am so excited! The apparition of the man and the mysterious sounds of horseshoes make it look like a hotspot for paranormal activity. It’s interesting that it used to house Chinese immigrants during the Gold Rush—so much history must leave an energy behind. Has anyone ever stayed here and experienced anything unusual themselves? While reading about haunted hotels, I stumbled across some Capital Vacations reviews that mentioned other eerie locations too. It’s really interesting to hear firsthand accounts from people who’ve been to places like this!
