The original opera house on the site burnt down in 1892, and was rebuilt three years later in 1895. It is from the fire, however, that the building’s resident ghost is believed to have stemmed. Theatre patrons have reported seen the apparition of a disgruntled fireman who died in the blaze, and is forever searching for the person that committed the act of arson that burnt down the opera house, as well as a large proportion of the historic district.
