White Otter Castle is 3-story log house that hermit James Alexander “Jimmy” McOuat built all by himself between 1903 and 1915. McOuat built it for a woman he intended to marry, but in 1918, before this could be arranged, he drowned while fishing and is buried in a nearby grave. McOuat’s ghost has been seen in and around the castle and near the Turtle River, where he drowned. Strange noises also have been heard coming from the castle.

Give me a call I’d like to test this out
Was there paddling in the area decades ago. I know plenty of folks who enjoy seeing it and like the story behind it. For myself, it was full of negative energy that I could physically feel. I wanted to be away from it immediately. Even remembering being there, I feel slightly sick and it has been 40 years since I was there.
