The Sherman Tavern is a historic former tavern built in 1812, which is in the process of being restored by local residents. It was a former stage stop for cattle drovers and American Indians. People restoring the historic building have reported seeing the apparitions of Confederate soldiers, and African American slaves and young children wandering around the building and the surrounding grounds. Shouting voices have been heard, along with strange music, footsteps and doors which open and close by themselves.

We investigated Sherman Tavern in June 2013. We had some interesting experiences. Some of the more skeptical of the group experienced dizziness in the front room where a little girl was supposedly was raped and murdered. They also experienced the sensation of being touched. In evidence review, we got some interesting EVPs. One of the group we took along with us is an anchor for the local ABC affiliate and she documented her experience on her blog. http://www.wtvq.com/story/d/story/investigating-the-paranormal/26434/ySTimXJgMUS6YGRWiQzYRg

I was there one afternoon as part of a Christmas Historical Tour. I’m a Grant County native. I’m told I am a sensitive. As I walked up the stairs during the beginning remodeling process, a strong and possessive male presence overcame me and a huge black mass shot across the room towards me and stopped me from going to the second floor. It was angry. I knew if I went any farther that it would kick it up a notch. Whoever he is, he wants to be left alone.
That was Mr. Cason, the former owner of the tavern. He’s buried in the family cemetery next to the tavern. Our team currently does public investigations for the tavern. http://Www.spookeparanormal.com or find us on Facebook http://Www.facebook.com/spookeparanormal
We run all the paranormal tours out of Sherman tavern. We appreciate all of your feedback.
Any chance for private investigation and cost to and day we could do it.
The place was closed so we took pictures of the outside, didn’t see it until we left, there is a man in the picture I took of my sister.
I was helping in the restoration of the tavern along with my cousin Brad. I was vacuuming the front upstairs bedroom and had to use an extension cord run to the lower level because there wasn’t electric upstairs. My vacuum was unplugged twice and something tugged my shirt. I thought it was my cousin messing with me but I could see him in the front yard. Nobody else was there. We did paranormal investigations here and it was very interesting to say the least. Happy hunting!
