You are here Home  > Colleges and Universities >  University of Minnesota Duluth - Griggs Hall

The University of Minnesota Duluth’s Griggs Hall has a haunted toilet, students say. And the commode has not one, but two ghosts. Both students died of alcohol poisoning, and the ghosts are said to manifest by the sounds of moaning, profane language, and retching along with a bad smell.

  1. Concerned umd student  |

We live in Griggs F, a triple dorm. This November my roommate experienced a paranormal experience. He awoke with with scratches on his back in a horizontal manner. And just recently on the same day the 18th 3 months apart, my other roommate woke up in the middle of the night kicking a dark figure away from his bed. The next day we looked at his back and there were the same horizontal scratches on his back. We struggle to understand how and why this happened. All we know is that Griggs is definitely haunted.

  2. I lived in Griggs C in 1985. This was when the school operated on the quarter system and not semester. I moved out before the end of winter quarter into a campus apartment because the room would get really cold at night. Everything was checked out about the room and nothing was deemed broken with the HVAC. I slept in other rooms on my floor and never experienced that kind of cold. My roommate was not at all bothered by it. My roommate stayed but housing could not keep other girls in that room. After trying three new roommates, housing gave up and my former roommate lived alone the remainder of the year. All three girls said the same thing about the room being so cold at night they couldn’t sleep. We all felt a slight breeze across our face when trying to sleep. Very creepy.
