Rumor has it that an eerie scene re-creates itself on a deadly anniversary at Stonehill College. Years ago, a small passenger plane crashed into the college’s pond. Now, every year on the same night, a blue mist comes off the pond and creates a blanket of fog over the campus. Just as it starts to clear, the phantom plane appears with the pilot struggling to get out.

There was no plane crash on the campus. Fred Ames did die in a plane crash but the crash took place in Randolph not on the campus.
The Ames’ plane crashed in my grandmother’s yard on Lafayette Street in Randolph. Her name was Mary McGowan Allen. My mother, Mary Allen O’Brien, was about 15 at the time, and was the first person to reach the plane. My 8 year old great niece Elena is going to a sleepover tonight and the girls plan to tell ghost stories. Just saw this while pursuing the internet for background info on our family’s own ghost story.

Yes that is correct. He was flying back from a social event in RI one evening in some purportedly heavy fog and passed his landing destination in Easton by mistake before crashing near the Blue Hills in Randolph. However, in an unrelated event at that same pond on Stonehill’s campus in Easton, a boy once drowned while swimming.
