Birdsville Plantation was built in the 1700s on land that King George III gave to Welshman Francis Jones. Construction on the plantation house began in 1782, but many additions were made over the years. Legend has it that Union soldiers, searching for the family’s treasure, dug up the bodies of the family’s twins and set fire to the house. Ghost stories about the place include the sound of children crying in the night and doors that open and close by themselves.

i would LOVE to go there
I was a young man when we moved to Birdsville. I was in the 8th grade. Population was 13. Mr and Mrs Andrews and their two young children, Mrs Grizzard, and my family. All the roads were dirt and we had no street lights. I would babysit for the Andrews and experienced lights turning on and off, doors slamming and opening again, fans turning off and on, and on occasion I have had pillows pulled from under my head. I have seen furniture moving and more. I would out run my dogs in the middle of the night while going back to our home.
My name is Georgia Jones Dupuis and I am a descendant of the Jones family that built Birdsville Plantation. It was my Great, Great maybe Greater Grandfather and his sons developed the plantation. I am 77 years young now, and clearly remember my Grandfather and family telling of the fire that Sherman set. What scared me to death was the Union troops dug up the graves of two twin babies. Also, there was a skull in the basement of the main house. It scared me to death, and never really thought the stories were REAL!!. I have discovered, thanks to the internet, these stories were indeed true!!
My dad and granddad farm land of what used to be “Jones Plantation”, one of the fields even holding the Jones Family cemetery. When my daddy was a little boy he used to play with the Andrews kids and spend the night. He swears that pictures on the walls would move by theirselves during the night and you could hear footsteps!
