Cork Street Tavern

You are here Home  > Restaurants and Bars >  Cork Street Tavern

The restaurant building here dates back to 1827, and Cork Street Tavern by name to 1985. Two ghosts are said to reside here, John and Emily. John Mann’s spirit wears a long black frock coat, and Emily’s voice is often heard calling John’s name. The ghosts play tricks by moving objects within the restaurant and occasionally lock a patron in the women’s restroom; one more of the many interestings thing to note about this restaurant is that a female patron is said to stumble, but not fall, every day upon entering a certain part of the old section of the tavern.

  1. My family from Maryland came for a visit, so my wife and daughter and I took them to Cork Street Tavern on the old side in the non smoking side. While there we notice a young woman sitting in the area we were at. The servers walked by her without asking if she wanted anything and she had no purse or bag. We started talking about the possible chance that the place could be haunted, she the girl paid close attention to our conversation, but said nothing. My uncle took a photo of my family and I, the girl was sitting right behind us, but the girl didn’t show up in photo behind us. Then the girl got up walked in the rest room and none of us saw her come out. After a few minutes of waiting my aunt found the door unlocked and entered to a empty room. I can’t say 100% that she was a ghost, but we watched the room and rest room door she didn’t come out. So maybe!

  2. My daughter used to work at Cork Street Tavern. She is a fairly brave person, but NO employees want to go to the basement alone for supplies. Usually an entity will call them by name, in the basement and in the bar area. She has been shoved and locked in the bathroom….
