Local legend tells of an early-1900s train that was held up by vigilantes chasing down a hired hand who murdered the family that employed him. The train bridge used to cross the Logan Creek, and from this former trestle, the man was hanged. Residents say sometimes a ghost bridge appears as a dark smudge in your peripheral vision, suspended over the creek where the train bridge used to stand.

You have the wrong town. It’s called Higgins Hanging. Higgins was a hired farm hand working for a family between present day Bancroft and Walthill. He was attempting to rape their daughter when the father and mother went after him. Sadly, he killed both parents and tossed their bodies to the pigs. Vigilantes held up the train in Bancroft, not Pender. The final destination of the train was Pender, where the jail was located. But the hanging happened in Bancroft. After he was hung, the vigilantes also shot the body with many gun shots to ensure he was dead.
