The historic fort is known not only for its Revolutionary War past, but also for a tragedy that occurred on July 4, 1809. An accidental explosion, when the wind blew a spark onto over 300 lbs. of powder, set off numerous cannons and explosions that killed nine Independence Day celebrants and ravaged the fort. Apparitions, mists and strange lights have been caught on film, and paranormalists have determined that several spirits inhabit the fort.

I was there today, visiting with my husband and two children. I was taking pictures of my daughter in one of the the “windows” in the entrance, opposite the Sentry Room. I took three photos, back to back. The third has a strange orb on her legs. After doing a bit of research, I’m finding more and more people with the same experience.
that is some amazing photo evidence you were able to capture!
Looks like a bird, I believe in ghosts, and I’m a ghost hunter, but that looks like a bird
Very VERY STRANGE !!!! I had the same black blur style come out on our live video footage taken by UNH center for coastal and ocean mapping’s vessel today. Thought it was creepy but my engineer coworkers insisted it was a signal glitch..
Walking into the Second Magazine building, I felt definite pressure; thickness in the air; had a fleeting mental image of a red-coated officer leaning around the corner to look in from the outside.
I have been visiting this fort ever since I was a child, I have realized that I have always experienced a very heavy feeling on my chest especially when passing the jail cells towards the jetty. I fully believe there are trapped spirits within the cells back from the disaster in 1805.
