Built in 1836, the building has been used as an inn and tavern, private home, and school. Now a restaurant, its menu features, among other dishes, steak dinners named after the six presidents who have visited here: John Quincy Adams, Martin Van Buren, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor and Warren G. Harding. A female ghost is said to reside on the upper floors, creating creaking footsteps and appearing in upstairs windows. As legend has it, she was a former resident who committed suicide upon finding that her beloved had forsaken her. The legend goes on to say she embroidered a sampler before her death that says “Remember Me,” and the sampler is on display in the second floor hallway.
