When the museum moved to the Arbona building, the staff realized that the ghost of a former resident inhabited the building. Eugenio Arbona, who came to the area in the late 1800s, apparently never left. Witnesses have detected his strong cigar smoke, objects are moved around by unseen hands, and mysterious noises are heard on the second story. Also, the elevator sometimes operates on its own. In the Military Room, guests have felt tugs on their clothing, and detected a strong sense of something unknown. It is said that during a talk a volunteer was giving to some visitors, the volunteer called Mr. Arbona a mean man. At that point, three loud raps were heard from the back of the building.

We moved to Florida 3 summers ago. After being there for a few weeks, we were bored and was told to walk around downtown since most of the things to do were cheap and fun. We went into the Arbona Building since it was a museum at the time… I don’t think it was a children’s museum yet. Downstairs, we were fine (It was me, my husband, and 3 of our kids- 1 boy and 2 girls). When we got on the elevator, I started feeling very weird.. I had such a creepy feeling and felt like I needed to stay downstairs. I didn’t say anything though so that I wouldn’t scare the kids since I thought I was just being silly. As soon as the elevator opened, my oldest daughter looked at me and said “I’m scared and I want to go back downstairs.” . I DID NOT want to step out of that elevator, but I did anyway to keep my daughter from being frightened. I stayed upstairs for maybe all of one minute and I told my husband that I had to get out of there. I felt like I just couldn’t stay up there a minute longer. My husband thought I was crazy.. It was the worst feeling… nothing touched me and I didn’t see anything but I had to go. My daughter and I went back downstairs and waited for my husband and other kids to come back downstairs. On the way out, the lady at the desk asked if we enjoyed to museum. I told her she was going to think that I was silly, but that the upstairs really scared me. She then told me that most people think it’s haunted. I had no idea!!! It would have been one thing if I knew in advance. I would’ve chalked it up to me over thinking things. But not having any clue that the museum we wondered in was supposedly haunted and feeling the way I did definitely makes me believe it IS haunted.
How is it accessed and is it a pay entry
I was visiting the museum with my one year old and felt great on the first floor. Then we went up to the second floor ,my friend said he felt sick and I felt as if my whole left arm and shoulder was being pulled down. We left immediately.
